Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist
Personal profile
Dr G André Ng is an expert in the management of cardiac arrhythmias especially in catheter ablation and the use of mapping systems in such procedures. He has played a key role in the establishment of an active ablation programme for atrial fibrillation since 2002 at Glenfield Hospital with excellent clinical results. He also specialises in device implantation including pacemakers, implantable cardioverter defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) devices.
Dr Ng has a distinguished research profile in investigations into cardiac electrophysiology and arrhythmia mechanisms, leading both non-clinical and clinical teams of talented researchers. He is also director of pan-european training programmes on advanced three-dimensional mapping systems and arrhythmia ablation.
He recently pioneered the use of a new robotic catheter manipulation system and applied it in ‘world’s first’ treatment of patients with heart rhythm disturbances.Dr Ng’s specialist interests include radiofrequency ablation, automated implantable cardiodefibrillators, permanent pacemakers and arrhythmias.
Medical & Surgical Training
Dr Ng trained in Glasgow where he obtained his medical degree and subsequently PhD. He moved to Birmingham as clinical lecturer where he completed his clinical training. He was appointed as Senior Lecturer in Cardiology at the University of Leicester in 2002 and Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at the University Hospitals of Leicester.
